SMRC Women Shut Out Vegas
After a disappointing loss at Tempe in late February (26-33), the SMRC Women regrouped during the mid-season hiatus to defeat Las Vegas, 87-0.
The game against Tempe showed a stagnant offense from Santa Monica with lapses in defense. Santa Monica spent their time off working on these issues and dominated from the initial kickoff against Vegas. The ‘Phins notched their first points in the first 4 minutes with a penalty kick made by Whitney Vance (3-0). Santa Monica’s experience and athleticism were showcased in the first half, with the team putting on a clinic in quick ball movement and support. The half ended with the Dolphins up 53-0.
Santa Monica continued their dominance in the second half, forcing turnovers while on defense and capitalizing on set plays. The scoring continued and the game ended with a final score of 87-0.
The Dolphins will host Tempe in two weeks with an eye toward redeeming themselves after their first league loss in two seasons.
