SMRC Women Finish 4th in Nation
The SMRC Women fell for the first time this season in their National Semifinal match versus the Seattle Saracens.
Seattle came out with guns blazing from the onset, taking advantage of their size and speedy backline. Santa Monica had difficulty containing them as they were forced to commit extra defenders to bring them down, giving them opportunities on the outside. Though the Phins did well to maintain possession in the first half when they did get the ball, an offensive rhythm was difficult to establish with a rushing Seattle defense. Seattle racked up 5 tries in the first half, score 0-33.
Santa Monica adjusted well in the second half, quickly recycling their defense to Seattle’s line. They were also able to break through Seattle’s defense a few times, but unfortunately could not convert the opportunities into tries. SMRC limited Seattle to two tries in the second half and the whistle blew with a final score of 0-47.
With this first loss, Santa Monica ends the 2015 season as 4th in the nation. It has been an incredible season with an ever growing roster. The ladies will look to return better, faster, and stronger next year and go even further in their success!
