New coach for Women’s team
After an extensive search, the SMRC Women’s team has hired Douglas “Angus” Harris as their new Head Coach. Harris recently moved back to the U.S. after many years abroad, where he played & coached professionally in the UK and, more recently, South Africa. He holds both an IRB and RFU Level 2 coaching certificate.
“I could not be more thrilled to be part of the great tradition here at Santa Monica Rugby Club,” Harris remarked. “I am especially excited about the brilliant lady ruggers I now have the privilege of coaching. After a quick week of training and a commanding victory over Ventura WRFC, we look poised for a successful season. I could not be more pleased or proud of the lady ‘Phins! Their teamwork and rugby spirit will undoubtedly reinforce the reputation of this great club.”
Harris played professionally at Staines RFC, Rosslyn Park FC, London Irish, Barnes RFC, and Bishopston RFC. He is a school teacher by trade and looking to settle into something here in the Los Angeles area.
