Rugby Sevens Season Wrap-Up
The men finished up the 7s season on Saturday, September 10th, in San Luis Obispo at the Tri-Tip 7s.
Head Coach Tommy Smith has done a fantastic job with the program this summer, consistently challenging the team to improve their play and approach to each rugby sevens game and tournament.
Though the boys failed to qualify for the USA Sevens National Championship Tournament, Coach Smith established a platform from which Dolphins 7s will grow.
Special congratulations go out to Nick Regas, Chris Clay, and Eddie McKenna for winning the USA 7s National All-Star Championship tournament as members of the Southern California Griffins.
Based on several reports from various sources, McKenna, who played his 7s rugby with SoCal rival club Belmont Shore, demonstrated that he most certainly deserves immediate recognition and placement onto the USA 7s squad representing the US in IRB sevens international play.
“Without a doubt, Eddie should be a contracted member of the National Team,” said Smith. “He has an amazing motor, is great and compact around the breakdown, is elusive, and just never quits.”
With the close of the 7s season, Santa Monica begins preparations for the 2012 15-a-side campaigns.
